How many times do I hear myself say, "where is that big orange binder?" or "has anyone seen that big orange binder?" The big orange binder has been accumulating recipes, kinspiration & original recipe cards tucked into plastic sleeves for my entire-almost-forty year existence. "The Big Orange Binder" is an organization attempt. It's a recipe with a story neatly packaged in a place where I'll always be able to find the ever-elusive . . . Big Orange Binder.

Honey Pumpkin Sugar Scrub Cubes

1/4 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup shredded soap

Melt together over medium double boiler.  When smooth-ish, remove from heat and pour into:

1 cup of white granulated sugar

Mix well, then add:

1 tbsp of pumpkin pie spice
2 tbsp of honey

Mix well.   Press into molds and allow to firm up.   When firm, remove from molds and make gift presentation.   * Note:  this can be kind of crumbly and will fall apart if left to open air . . so maybe a cute baby jar?

Brown Sugar & Maple Syrup Soap Scrubbies

1/4 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup shredded soap

Melt together over medium double boiler.  When smooth-ish, remove from heat and pour into:

1 cup of brown sugar

Mix well, then add:

A big splash of maple syrup

Mix well.  Press into molds and allow to firm up.   When firm, remove from molds and make gift presentation.   * Note:  this can be kind of crumbly and will fall apart if left to open air . . so maybe a cute baby jar?

Vanilla Coffee Sugar Scrub Cubes

1/4 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup shredded soap

Melt together over medium double boiler.  When smooth-ish, remove from heat and pour into:

1 cup of white granulated sugar

Mix well, then add:

A big splash of vanilla
about 1/2 cup of coffee grouds

Mix well (should look like smashed up oreos, but smells like chocolate . . . . total sensory overload!)

Press into molds and allow to firm up.   When firm, remove from molds and make gift presentation.   * Note:  this can be kind of crumbly and will fall apart if left to open air . . so maybe a cute baby jar?

Essential Oil Lip Balm

2 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp beeswax pellets
2 tbsp shea butter
EO to reach scent, as desired (the sweet spot for me is 40 drops of peppermint, but that changes based on what you are using an what your desired end result is)

You'll need .  . .
double boiler (I think easier than the microwave method)
a tiny, disposable pipette
lip balm blanks or tiny containers
something to stir with

In the double boiler, melt the coconut oil, beeswax and shea butter.  Do this over medium heat and be patient.  Keep stirring.   When it's smooth, take it off the heat, but leave it over the water.   Add the EO and stir.

Stand all the blanks up or prep them in such a way that you can fill one and quickly move to the next.  Use the tiny pipette to fill the blanks.   Let set until hardened.   Make a cute label & spread the love by giving as a gift :)   Give or take, this recipe yields about 18 tubes of lippy.

Spinach Cheese Swirls

This is an appetizer, party-going favorite for the ages:

Ingredients:
* 1/2 of a packaged (17.3 oz) Puff Pastry Sheets (from the freezer section)
* 1 egg
* 1 tbsp of water
* 1/2 cup of shredded Muenster cheese (or Monterey Jack . . . something white)
* 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
* 1 green onion, chopped
* 1/8 tsp garlic powder
* 1 pkg frozen chopped 10 oz pkg spinach (thawed and well drained)

Thaw pastry sheet at room temp for at least 40 minutes or until easy to handle.  Heat oven to 400.  Lightly grease a sheet or line w/ parchment paper.  Stir egg and water in a small bowl.  Stir muenster cheese, parmesan cheese, onion, and garlic powder in a medium bowl.   Unfold the pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface.  brush with egg mixture.  Top with cheese mixture and spinach.   Starting at the short side,  closest to you, roll up like a jelly roll. Cut into to 1/2" slices.  Place the slices on the baking sheet and brush lightly with egg wash.   Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Cream Cheese Frosting

Whip the heck out of:

* a block of cream cheese (I think that's 8 ounces) and the original recipe called for 1/2 of that ... but I have a big family that loves frosting on their cinnamon rolls, plus 1/2 a block of cream cheese in the fridge is gross)
* 8 oz unsalted butter (softened for best whipping)
* 4 cups of powdered sugar
* a big splash of vanilla (maybe 2-3 tablespoons, or to taste)
